All Digging Stick Ukuleles are modified figure-eight sopranos
with an arched back design. They have a scale length of 13-1/2”,
an upper bout of 5-3/8”, a lower bout of 6-3/4”,
and a nut width of 1-7/16”.
Currently we have a variety of ukuleles in our shop. For more
ukulele photos, see Pic-A-Uke.

This Digging Stick model
came about from our desire to build a ukulele with distinct
woods both native-grown and renewable in the contiguous
United States. Of equal importance to us was sound quality,
playability, and cost.
Our design has a solid curly claro walnut body and a one-piece
walnut neck fitted with a splined joint. The asymmetrical
figure in the one-piece top and back gives the uke an uncommon
visual beauty. An American cherry radiused fingerboard
is inset with pau abalone front dot markers and the tapered
peghead is veneered with curly walnut. The bridge is American
cherry; the nut and saddle are bone; and the tuners are
Grover 88B’s. Our finish is an oil varnish and each
ukulele is set up and strung with Aquila strings. We have
also chosen native basswood and spruce for all lining,
blocks, and bracing.
*This ukulele has a distinctive earthy sound and a striking
chocolately curl. Its simplicity is far from common and
it is a joy to play. |

The top, back, and side woods for the following
ukuleles are book-matched. A bolted mortise and tenon joint attaches
the neck to the body and the joined headstock is veneered. The
rosewood fretboards are radiused and inlaid with paua abalone
dot markers. Each body has front and back binding and a black/white
wood marquetry is inlaid for the sound-hole rosettes and for
the purfling if used. A semi-gloss oil varnish is the final finish
and Grover 88B tuners, bone nut and saddle, and Aquila strings
complete the ukuleles.

*The active figure in this
traditional ukulele wood is beautiful and the tones are spirited
and true.
These ukuleles have a koa neck with a curly koa veneer on
a Digging Stick peghead design. The bodies have curly koa
binding and are purfled front and back. |

*Each of these ukuleles is
a unique and energetic instrument with a full, sweet character
and a rich, balanced voice of its own.
As the materials and treatments vary within these ukuleles,
they are priced accordingly. At your request, we will send
you complete descriptions with pricing. |
